What is it and why do we use it?:

Orthopedic manual therapy is the assessment and treatment of orthopedic conditions through hands-on intervention that focuses on the restriction or impairment itself.

Some of the skilled manual techniques used by our Physical Therapists may include:

  • Traction / Distraction

  • Therapeutic Massage

  • Graston Technique

  • Soft-Tissue Mobilization

  • Passive Range of Motion

  • Vestibular Rehab

  • Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization

Our orthopedic rehabilitation specialists and physical therapists select, prescribe, and implement manual therapy techniques when the examination findings, diagnosis, and prognosis indicate use of these techniques to:

  • Improve tissue extensibility

  • Increase range of motion

  • Induce relaxation

  • Mobilize soft tissue and joints

  • Decrease pain

  • Reduce soft tissue swelling, inflammation, or restriction

  • Enhance health, wellness, and fitness

  • Enhance or maintain physical performance

  • Prevent or remediate impairment in body functions and structures, activity limitations, or participation restrictions to improve physical function
